Effekters tillämpning i vokalmusik : En studie om hur rösten kan användas på ett icke konventionellt sätt inom a cappella musik med tillämpning i performansen Vild.

Syftet med min examenskonsert var att undersöka olika rösttekniker och effekter som kan göras med rösten samt hur dessa kan tillämpas inom icke konventionell vokalmusik. Det övergripande syftet med denna analytiska del av mitt examensarbete är att undersöka och förklara de konstnärliga val som gjordes för konserten ”Vild”. De ledande frågorna i mitt arbete har varit: På vilka annorlunda sätt kan man arbeta med rösten inom vokalmusik, vilka effekter och tekniker kan användas och hur kan man få fram känslor inom sång och uppförande? Slutledningen är att känslor och tolkning har en väsentlig roll inom röstanvändning. För att tolka olika känslor behövs kunskap och förmåga att behärska sitt instrument beträffande olika ljud, olika tillstånd och olika uttryck, men framförallt behövs ärlighet och mod att våga röra sig utanför det man är bekväm med och låta sig beröras av nuet och sitt innersta djup. Genom denna studie kan läsaren hitta konstnärligt och tekniskt något nytt, nya klanger samt ett nytt tankesätt till hur en konsert med vokalmusik kan produceras. Jag förväntar mig att arbetet och beskrivningen av projektet öppnar nya tankesätt, verktyg och inspiration för läsaren.The aim of my exam concert was to study different vocal techniques and effects of the voice and how these can be applied in non-conventional vocal music. The overall purpose of this analytical part of my thesis is to examine and explain the artistic choices made regarding the concert ”Vild”. The leading questions in my work are: What kind of work can be done with the voice in vocal music, what effects and techniques can be used and how can feelings get across in singing and performance. The conclusion is that feelings and interpretation always have an essential role in vocal technique and singing. To interpret different feelings, you need knowledge and the ability to master the instrument concerning different sounds, different conditions and different expressions, but most of all you need honesty and courage to take the step outside your comfort zone and let yourself be touched by the present and your own depths. In this research the reader can find something new artistically and technically, new sounds as well as new ways of thinking when producing a concert with vocal music. I expect that this study and it´s description of the process will give the reader a new mind-set, new tools and inspiration.Tutkintokonserttini tavoite oli tutkia erilaisia laulutekniikoita ja äänellisiä efektejä, sekä tutkia, miten näitä voidaan käyttää vaihtoehtoisessa vokaalimusiikissa. Tutkintokonserttini analyyttisen työn kokonaisvaltainen tavoite on tutkia ja selittää ne taiteelliset valinnat, joita tehtiin konserttiin ”Vild”. Työni keskeisinä tavoitteina on ollut selvittää, millä eri menetelmillä voidaan työskennellä äänen kanssa vokaalimusiikissa, mitä efektejä ja tekniikoita voidaan käyttää, sekä miten tunteita saadaan esille laulussa ja esiintymisessä. Johtopäätökseni on, että äänenkäytössä tunteet ja niiden tulkinta ovat välttämättömiä. Kun on kyse erilaisten äänien, mielentilojen ja tunteiden välittämisestä kuulijalle, tarvitaan tietoa ja taitoa oman instrumentin hallinnasta. Ennen kaikkea tarvitaan kuitenkin rehellisyyttä ja rohkeutta astua pois omalta mukavuusalueelta, ja antautua hetken ja oman sisimpänsä vietäväksi. Tämän työn kautta lukija voi löytää taiteellisesti ja teknisesti jotain uutta: uusia sointeja sekä uusia ajattelutapoja vokaalimusiikkikonsertin luomiseen. Uskon, että tämä työ ja sen antama kuvaus prosessista tuovat uusia näkökulmia, työkaluja sekä inspiraatiota lukijalle

Towards an international career as a self-managed artist : Networking via music fairs

The aim of this thesis is to study how an independent and self-managed artist can prepare for music fairs and do networking to reach out for an international market without the help of an agency, label or promoter. The leading questions in my work are: how one can manage to gain important collaborations, networks and credibility via attending fairs as a self-managed artist? Specific question that also will be dealt with are: What does export readiness mean and what does it take for La Riippa group to be export ready? What kind of export plan will we decide upon and what markets are of interest to us? The conclusion is that the fact that an artist is independent and self-managed is no hindrance for them to attend music fairs and do worthwhile networking. Nevertheless, this takes a lot of time as one needs to be prepared in order to succeed in establishing the important contacts and collaborations needed. The overall purpose of this thesis is to show the band La Riippa Group’s process and what they chose to concentrate on with their promoting and branding with the limited resources they had. I expect that this study and it´s description of the process will give the reader a new mind-set, new tools and inspiration. The knowledge gained from the thesis process I believe will be useful to many musicians, especially artists in Finland who contemplate how to arrange their own management and have hopes of an international career

NÄTVERKET FÖR TEATERKONST I ÖSTERBOTTEN : En aktionsforskning om samarbetet i nätverket

Detta examensarbete är gjort på uppdrag av SÖU r.f. och är en aktionsforskning i hur samarbetet inom projektet ”nätverket för teaterkonst i Österbotten” fungerat och hur nätverket kunde utvecklas. Projektet startade 2010 och är ett samarbete mellan SÖU r.f. (svenska Österbottens ungdomsförening) och FAMI r.f. (Förbundet för arbetar och medborgarinstitut i Svenska Österbotten) för att hjälpa och stöda utbildningsanordnare i Svenska Österbotten med att starta grundläggande konstundervisning i teaterkonst. Projektet är treårigt och finansieras av Svenska kulturfonden. Projektet har haft som mål att bygga upp ett nätverk av lärare, utbildningsanordnare och elever och strävar efter att erbjuda grundläggande konstundervisning i teaterkonst på orter där detta inte tidigare funnits. Examensarbetets mål är att ta reda på hur lärarna och utbildningsanordnare anser att samarbetet fungerat samt hur de anser att samarbetet kunde utvecklas och upprätthållas när projektfinansieringen tar slut. Examensarbetet baserar sig på forskarens egna erfarenheter som lärare för grundläggande konstundervisning i teaterkonst inom projektet, men även på enkäter som lärarna och utbildningsanordnare inom projektet har besvarat. Examensarbetets referensram består av teori om nätverk i allmänhet och om det sociala kapitalet i Svenskfinland samt av teori om aktionsforskning. Undersökningen kom fram till att projektet varit av ytterst stor betydelse för att grundläggande konstundervisning i teaterkonst i första hand startades på de berörda orterna i Österbotten. Arbetet och organiseringen som projektet och projektledaren gjort lyftes fram som de största orsakerna för att ett samarbete varit möjligt och som nödvändigt för att nätverkets framtid ska kunna tryggas.This thesis is an action research into the co-operation of the project “The network in Ostrobothnia for basic education in arts”. The research focuses on how the co-operation has functioned and how it could be improved to benefit the project. The project was launched in 2010 as a co-operation of SÖU r.f. (Swedish Ostrobothnian Youth Organisation) and FAMI r.f. (The Organisation of Adult Education in Swedish-speaking Finland) to help and support education centres to start basic education in the art of theatre. The project is expected to run for three years and is financed by the Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland. The aim of the project has been to construct a network of the teachers, education centers, and students in the art of drama, and strive to offer basic education in arts where it has not existed before. The aim of the thesis is to find out how the teachers and education centers perceive the co-operation and how it could be developed and maintained when the financing for the project ends. The research is based on the authors’ own observations and experience as a teacher in the project, but also on questionnaires answered by the teachers and education centers. The theoretical part of this thesis consists of theory of networks in general, the social capital in Swedish-speaking Finland, and also theory of action research. The research found the project to be of an utmost importance for the basic education in the art of theatre to be established in the areas of Ostrobothnia. The work done by the project and project leader was highlighted as the main reason the co-operation was possible, and perceived as vital for securing the future of the network
